Who we help

You're in the right place if…

Holding back

Something is holding you back

Pain, stiffness or an old injury is starting to change what you do — or what you're willing to try.

Decline

You feel less capable

Strength, movement, balance or fitness has slipped, and you're noticing it in everyday life.

Stop-start

You keep starting, stopping or going backwards

You've tried to get moving again, but pain, flare-ups or uncertainty about what you should be doing keeps getting in the way.

Ambition

You want to build your capability back

Not just manage the problem. You want to move better, get stronger and get back to doing more of the things that matter to you.

The four physical qualities

Exercise is only part of the answer.

Getting out of pain matters. But the bigger goal is building a body that's capable of doing what you need and want it to do.

That's why we look beyond the sore joint or immediate problem. We assess how you move, what you're capable of now, and what's actually limiting you — then build the physical qualities that matter.

01

Strength

Your ability to produce and control force. It underpins everyday tasks like getting out of a chair, climbing stairs, lifting, carrying and maintaining your balance.

02

Mobility

Having enough range of motion to move freely — along with the control to use that range confidently in everyday life.

03

Power

Your ability to produce force quickly. It matters when you need to react, catch yourself, change direction or move with confidence rather than hesitation.

04

Endurance

Your ability to sustain and repeat physical effort. It gives you the capacity to keep walking, working, travelling or doing the things you enjoy without running out of steam.

Flagship program

The Physical Rebuild

A structured 16-week program for people who are ready to build their body back.

The Physical Rebuild is our flagship one-to-one program for people who have become less active, less confident in their body, or simply less capable than they used to be.

Over 16 weeks, we assess where you are now, build an individual plan around what you want to get back to, and progressively develop your strength, mobility, power and endurance.

The goal isn't just to feel better for a few weeks. It's to build a stronger, more capable body — and give you the knowledge and confidence to keep it that way.

How it works

Three steps, in this order.

STEP 01

Understand where you are now

We start with a comprehensive assessment of how you move, your current physical capabilities, your history, and what you want to get back to doing. The aim is to understand what's actually limiting you — and for you to leave with a much clearer understanding of your own body.

STEP 02

Build your plan

Your program is built around what we find, what you're capable of now, and where you want to get to. You'll understand what we're working on and why — rather than simply being given exercises to follow.

STEP 03

Train, measure and progress

From there, we coach the process. We build gradually, adjust when needed, and progressively challenge your strength, mobility, power and endurance. Progress is measured and re-tested along the way, so we're not guessing about whether you're getting more capable.

Your coach

Meet Mathew

Mathew is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and physical preparation coach, with more than nine years of experience in exercise and coaching.

His approach combines clinical Exercise Physiology with physical preparation principles that have been thoroughly tested in real-world settings — helping people not only manage pain or injury, but build the physical qualities they need to live well.

Prime Movement Lab was created around the belief that addressing the problem in front of you is only part of the job. What really matters is what your body allows you to do — now and in the years ahead.

That means taking the time to understand where someone is now, what matters to them, and what may be holding them back — then building and coaching a plan that moves them forward.

At Prime, clients work directly with Mathew — from their initial assessment through to programming, coaching and progress reviews.

Client stories

What becoming more capable can look like

Everyone starts somewhere different. For Angela and Jim, the goal wasn't simply to exercise more — it was to build bodies that could handle more of the things that mattered to them.

Angela — Back to doing what she loves

After breaking her spine in a horse-riding accident, Angela spent a year in a brace. Although she eventually returned to exercise, ongoing back pain and stiffness continued to limit her training and made riding her horse painful.

Training initially focused on restoring mobility and movement control before progressively building her strength and conditioning.

Over time, Angela returned to pain-free performance training and, most importantly, got back to riding her horse — one of the things she loves most.

Jim — Stronger, fitter and more capable

Jim started training with pain in both knees, restriction through his neck and upper back, declining strength and low energy. The physical demands of running his pile-cropping business were becoming harder, and he was increasingly concerned about triggering flare-ups.

Training began with flexibility and movement-control work before progressively developing his strength and conditioning.

Jim went on to run 5 km pain-free, complete 40+ km bike rides, deadlift more than 140 kg and bench press more than 100 kg. His knee pain resolved, his energy improved significantly, and he became more confident handling the physical demands of his work and everyday life.

Disclosure: Angela and Jim trained with Mathew prior to the establishment of Prime Movement Lab. Their stories reflect their individual experiences and outcomes. Individual responses to exercise vary, and these examples do not guarantee specific results.

Common questions

FAQ

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book privately with an Exercise Physiologist without a referral. If you're accessing services through Medicare, DVA, WorkCover or another funded pathway, referral or approval requirements may apply. If you're unsure, get in touch and we'll help you work out what you need.

What if I haven't exercised in years?

That's completely fine. You don't need to get fit before you start. Your starting point is established through the Initial Assessment, and your exercise program is built around what you're capable of now. From there, we progress at a level that's appropriate for you.

What's the difference between an Exercise Physiologist and a physiotherapist?

Both professions can help people experiencing pain, injury or physical limitations, but their training and approach differ. Accredited Exercise Physiologists specialise in using exercise to help manage health conditions, recover physical capacity and improve function over time. At Prime, the emphasis is on understanding what's limiting you and progressively building the strength, mobility, power and endurance you need for everyday life.

Physiotherapists have a broader scope that can include diagnosis, hands-on treatment and rehabilitation. The two professions often complement each other, and in some situations working with both can be valuable.

What happens in an Initial Assessment?

We start by talking through your health and injury history, what's currently getting in the way, and what you'd like to be able to do. From there, we'll assess the areas relevant to you — which may include mobility, strength, movement, balance, fitness or other measures of physical capacity. You'll leave with a clearer understanding of where you are now, what may be limiting you, and what the next steps should be.

Where are you, and do you come to me?

Prime Movement Lab offers in-gym Exercise Physiology from ZeroW in Currumbin, as well as mobile services across selected areas of the southern Gold Coast. If you're not sure whether your location is covered, get in touch and we'll let you know.

Let's find out what your body is actually capable of.
